Paralegal Internships
The Paralegal Intern Program at Legal Voice has two components:
- Information and Referral (I&R) Phone Line — for a minimum of one shift per week, you will provide callers with legal information about Washington law, referrals to attorneys and community agencies, and assistance with problem-solving and pro se options.
- Short-Term Projects—interns working more than 3½ hours per week are offered a range of short-term projects relating to I&R or another Legal Voice program.
Qualifications
This program is open to current paralegal students. Both women and men are encouraged to apply.
Benefits & Skills Gained
The Paralegal Internship provides an opportunity for you to develop a variety of skills, including legal reasoning, client contact, and computer. You will also be able to increase your knowledge in a broad range of legal subject areas such as employment, family law, bankruptcy/collections, and landlord/tenant. Some projects will also allow you to develop research and writing skills.
Other benefits include:
- ongoing support from the Lead Paralegal, beginning with an orientation and training
- academic credit
- opportunities to network
- employment leads
- written references for those who complete their commitment
- use of your skills in a unique and rewarding way — directly helping others!
Time Commitment
Internships are available throughout the year, but only one internship slot is open at a time.
- Interns must staff the I&R line at least one 3½-hour shift per week for a minimum of 3 months (one quarter).
- Shifts are available Monday - Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m.
- Interns spend additional time in the office working on other projects and are required to establish a regular schedule with the Lead Paralegal.
Compensation & School Credit
Though Legal Voice does not pay interns, we will help you obtain academic credit.
