Violence Against Women
As the only women's legal rights organization in the region, Legal Voice plays a singular and crucial role in the lives of battered women and victims of sexual violence. Through our Self Help Program, we provide free legal information to help thousands of battered women each year find safety and security for themselves and their children. And using litigation and legislative advocacy we work tirelessly to improve the law to make it easier for women to get and stay safe.
Current Action
- Representing women who were sexually assaulted, harassed, or stalked by their landlords.
- Investigating campus responses to reports of harassment and assault and helping students advocate for changes to protect their safety and their rights.
- Advocating for domestic violence survivors whose abusers use the legal system to harass and control them.
- Fighting to ensure that permanent domestic violence protection orders may not be terminated simply because time has passed and the abuser has moved away.
- Advocating for women who lost their parental rights because they were in relationships with abusive men.
