- Successfully fighting for legislation in Washington that created a domestic partner registry for same-sex couples and senior unmarried heterosexual couples and provided registered domestic partners the same rights and responsibilities under state law as married spouse.
- Successfully challenging the denial of unemployment benefits to a worker who leaves a job to care for a domestic partner.
Lake v. Employment Security Dep't - Advocating before the Washington Legislature to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, including discrimination in employment, in public accommodations, and in real estate, credit, and insurance transactions.
- Winning the first Washington case that recognized a non-biological mother's right to parent her child.
In re Parentage of L.B. - Helping ensure that Montana law protects the rights of lesbian parents to maintain relationships with their non-biological children, and to ensure that lesbian and gay couples have the right to a fair and equitable division of their property when a relationship ends.

- Successfully urging the Montana Supreme Court to require the Montana University System to provide domestic partnership benefits to same-sex couples.
Snetsinger v. Montana University System - Successfully arguing that same-sex couples in Washington be accorded the same property division rules as other couples living in marital-like relationships
Vasquez v. Hawthorne; Gormley v. Roberts - Forcing the U.S. military to reinstate Colonel Grethe Cammermeyer, who was removed from her position because of her sexual orientation.
Cammermeyer v. Perry - Striking down Montana's "sexual deviant conduct law" that criminalized intimate sexual relationships between consenting adults of the same sex.
